a short letter

hen I moved to Spain from my hometown of Edinburgh, Scotland, I took the well-trodden route of teaching English for a living. That's when I built my first website, on a platform called Blogger, where I'd post each day's homework for my students. I quickly figured out how to add a custom header and change the background color. I'm a web developer! I thought.

Like most of my peers, I stole the bulk of my teaching ideas from a guy called Jamie Keddie, who ran a website called Lessonstream. One day, he blogged about wanting to re-do his site. I responded: let me know if you need any help. I might have claimed to be something of an expert.

That careless boast sent me down a rabbithole, but the site turned out OK, and that one WordPress build turned into a regular stream of projects that eventually led me out of teaching and into building websites for a living.

I work from a small home studio in Sabadell, Spain, which I share with 2 cats and an indeterminate number of guitars.
