The client, Khyentse Foundation (KF), built their WordPress website with Divi, which had allowed them flexibility to create new, unique pages. However, over the years, this had resulted in a lack of design consistency across the site., as well as a confusing user experience. When KF decided to reorganise and redesign their site to celebrate their 20th anniversary, they wished to implement design governance at the same time. They also sought to make it easier for their team to add content, and not have to worry about designing from scratch each time.
02
Approach
Working with KF’s designer, I carried out UX research to identify the main pain points users’ were having, and developed a strategy focusing on IA, on-site search, and the donation workflow.
To replace Divi, I opted to create a light custom templating system using ACF. This provided design & authoring consistency across different types of content, enforced by Custom Post Types for team members, grant recipients, awards, publications and more.
Enhanced, multilingual search was provided through the integration of Algolia. With the content reorganised and reclassified, I was able to tell the Foundation’s story through powerful data visualsations.
03
Outcome
Presented the Foundation’s global impact through interactive maps and data visualisations
Migrated 450 articles from Divi to the new ACF-based template
Reduced the time taken to add new content from 45 minutes to 10
